Rosenmuskateller Grappa. The shiny ruby-red Moscato Rosa is a special rarity among vine varieties in South Tyrol – legend has it that the Prince of Campofranco brought some with him when, in the middle of the 19th century, he moved from Sicily to Caldaro. In spite of its southern origins, it seems that this sophisticated variety feels at ease in the vineyards along the South Tyrol wine route. The yields are relatively small, the growing surface is limited and the grapes need a specially warm micro-climate; nevertheless wine growers in South Tyrol who take on this challenge always manage to produce remarkable Moscato Dolomiti or South Tyrol Moscato Rosa vintages. This fine, aromatic dessert wine stands out with its full-bodied, sweet-tangy aroma and as the name suggest – opulent rose scent. The shiny colour of this unique red dessert wine of course falls by the wayside in the Grappa made with Moscato Rosa pomace, but what remains are its strong aromas of currants and floral notes, reminiscent of dried rose leaves.
